Orleans Bulldogs vs Northeast Dubois Jeeps Indiana High School Basketball Recap – 12/10/2021

Welcome to Southern Indiana Sports Network. This will be the first post on the site, a sports news and social content site concentrated on all things Indiana Sports. We’ll find more direction as we move forward, but expect to see a lot of sports photography, random southern Indiana High School basketball games, sports stats analysis, and Hoosier fan posts.

Why would we do this? We like to write and have run a few other promotional websites, and we’re sports nerds. I am a hobbyist photographer and recently started taking sports photos at my cousins’ high school games of Paoli and Orleans.

With the local newspapers being swallowed up by larger corporations, we noticed a lack of local sports coverage. Small town Indiana thrives on their local sports, and that celebration from the daily paper slowly slips away. So, we said “Hey, let’s try this out. Let’s try to sell some pictures, feature some local kids, and just have fun with whatever we want to do.”

We probably won’t be consistent, and most of our high school coverage will be biased around the area of Eastern Greene, Bloomington, Orleans, Paoli, Bedford, & Mitchell. If you like the idea, and would like us to cover a game, please send us an email at SINSportsNetwork@gmail.com.

Orleans Bulldogs vs Northeast Dubois Jeeps Indiana HS Basketball Recap

Orleans Bulldogs’ Carter Allen.

Our first recap of the 2021-2022 ISHAA basketball season was a fast-paced thriller down in Orleans, Indiana. When you think of Indiana basketball towns, Orleans is quintessential. A school with a lot of family heritage, where generations of Smith’s, Hall’s, McCracken’s and so forth who produce strong, quick, sharp-shooting players. Ask anyone in the town of Orleans, you won’t find a better shooter than a Smith kid. Just go check out Josh Smith at Stetson university.

The Bulldogs and the Jeeps were both physical teams, well-conditioned and well coached. The difference in this game was that Jeeps just could not finish on the bucket. The Jeeps drove, beat the constant press from the Bulldogs, and kept up their motivation, but not finishing or hitting free throws allowed the Bulldogs to take the win, 63-40.

The Orleans Bulldogs were led by a very strong underclass. Rylan Crocker, a freshman, led all scores with 18 points. We could tell from pre-game warmups that Crocker was a pure shooter. The kid has near perfect form and the confidence to be a senior. Crocker hit 5-6 three pointers. Bryce Jones & Xavier Alston tacked in 11 each, and Ian Hall had 7 points.

Orleans’ Rylan Crocker, a freshman, led all scores with 18 points.

Both teams were aggressive, but Orleans really impressed with their hustling. The Bulldogs were in early foul trouble, and had to play a few bench players, and I hardly noticed any change in the ferocity the Dogs brought. The Orleans Bulldogs are well coached team. The off-the-ball movement on offense was constant, the teamwork, and hustle was all impressive. I look forward to when we get the cousin versus cousin battle between historical rivals of Paoli Rams versus Orleans Bulldogs.

In the second half, the Jeeps made a strong push to climb back within 8 near the end of the third. The Jeeps had found their stride, matching the Bulldogs veracity with their own. Unlike the Hoosiers against Wisconsin, the Bulldogs held their own and regained their stride.

Xavier Alston came up strong in the later part of the game, helping Orleans to secure the lead. Alston is a hidden giant, a tall sophomore who’ll outjump anyone in the gym, finished the night with a double-double (11 pts, 10 rebounds).

Xavier Alston, Sophomore, finished strong with a double-double.
