Shoals’ Joe Smithson is Southern Indiana Sports Network’s December 2021 Player of the Month

Joe Smithson is SIN Sports Network December 2021 “Player of the Month”. A junior at Shoals High School, he is clearly loved by the Jug Rox fan base, with 4,061 votes of a total 12,704 casted. Joe Smithson is a 5’11” forward, who can bang down low and step out and hit the three.

The Shoals coaching staff believes Joe runs the floor well and has a great old school hook. He gets the dirty work done. He might not be the highest scorer on the team, but displays absolute hustle. Coach Perry calls him a “Junkyard Dog”, a playstyle reminiscent of AJ Moye, Joey Galloway, or Dennis Rodman.

Shown sitting on the floor, from left to right, are Student Managers Asher Dishman, Shelby Fields, and Brady Lents. Shown seated, from left to right, are Brayden Perry, Jaden Jones, Jacob Bowman, Carter Roush, Juan Arroyo-Asbury, Blake Cooper, and Carson Shaw. Standing, from left to right, are Varsity Coach Bryson Abel, Assistant Coach Robert Sullivan, Ralph Holman, Brydon McKibben, Joe Smithson, Andrew Banks, Rylan Perry, Maliki Bridges, Nic Spurgeon, Junior Varsity Coach Jon Perry, Assistant Coach Tim Sorrells, and Volunteer Assistant Coach Mike Cooper. — Shoals News Photo by Audra P. Joe Smithson clearly has heart. The fans see it. His teammates see it. He’s one of those players that will do anything you ask of him, dive for the loose ball, take the charge, or get rough. Joe is currently putting up 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and .4 steals a game. Keep up the good work Joe, your community is noticing!

We will have a plaque made to commemorate the honor and deliver it to the Shoals coaching staff, possibly even present it at a game. Congratulations!

Next Round for January

This was the first iteration of our fan voting process for Best Players. The first round consisted of voting for your ‘Top 5 Best High School Players’. We calculated all the votes and selected the top 25 players. These players were placed in a second round of voting, where fans had the chance to vote for “Player of the Month” just from those 25 players.

We allowed readers to vote as much as they wanted last time, but for the next iteration we’re only going to allow one vote per person.

Voting is now open for January 2022. First, we will get the list of best players based on all your submissions.

Sponsorship

If you have a company, or just love Indiana Highschool basketball, and would like to help us cover costs for plaques, please reach out to us. We can discuss options that may work.
