Trey Rominger breaks Paoli’s Rushing Record in loss to Perry Central

PAOLI – The Paoli Rams Football Team came up against what was predicted, a very capable running team in Perry Central Commodores. Perry Central came to Paoli well-tuned and prepared as they beat Paoli 49 to 26.

In what was probably the only bright spot for Paoli, Junior running back Trey Rominger broke the Rams’ school career rushing record of 3,274, a record set in 2003 by Tyler White. Paoli Rams head Coach Neil Dittmer shares his thoughts on the record, ”Extremely proud of Trey. He puts a ton of work in to being the best version of himself. To break the record his 4th game of his junior year is pretty amazing too.”

Ruger Gill, Trey Rominger’s brother, made this mural for the record breaking accomplishment.

Trey Rominger would finish the loss with 18 rushes for 123. This would be the first game of the year that he was held without a touchdown. In fact, the Rams did not score until late in the 2nd quarter with an Austin Benales touchdown run. It was too late at that point as the Commodores were already up 35 to 6.

It was the number 24 of Perry Central who celebrated the day. Commodores Junior RB Sawyer Guillaume had open run lanes all night, and when they weren’t open, he was able to cut back and find them. Guillaume rushed 19 times for 277 yards and 5 touchdowns. Sawyer has been on our Player of the Week list every week, and he will be again this week. His performance is one best we have watched this season.

On the Commodores first snap, Guillaume ran untouched down the field for a touchdown. The Rams would respond with one of their own but was called back on a questionable holding call. The drive sputtered, and Guillaume came right back and scored another touchdown on the first snap. This would set the pace for the rest of the game as the Rams could not find any answer for a Perry Central team that was just more prepared and executed.

The Rams came out sluggish, and through the night they look tired and accepted defeat early.

“Perry came in and executed their game plan very well and we didn’t respond well. They are tough team to face and Coach Gibson does a good job. We have to learn from it and have a better week of preparation to take on a talented West Washington team.” Coach Dittmer says of Perry Central.

These two teams have the potential to play again in the Sectionals, and I’m sure it will be another strong contest for Paoli.

In Week 5, the Rams will travel to West Washington and face another difficult battle against the Senators who are 4-0 this season. The Senators easily handled Springs Valley in week 3 winning, 38 to 17. The Rams will have to buckle down and focus if they hope to beat a well-coached West Washington team.

Perry Central moves on to face an undefeated Tecumseh team in what looks to shape up as a very good game.
