It’s the final Southern Indiana Football Player of the Week vote of the regular season, and Week 9 delivered one of the most impressive slates of performances yet. From dominant rushing attacks to clutch defensive takeaways, Southern Indiana’s best made sure to close out the regular season in style.
Last week, Scottsburg’s Garrett Boling captured his second Player of the Week honor of the season, earning nearly half of the 21,000 votes cast. Boling caught four passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns while making ten tackles on defense in the Warriors’ 64–0 win over Eastern. Now, as sectionals approach, a new group of standouts step into the spotlight for fans to decide who deserves the final regular-season title.
This week’s voting includes all new faces, so who will get last award of the season?
The Blackhawks’ defense came up clutch in a 13–8 win over North Daviess, and it was senior leader Landon Weeks who stole the show. Weeks pulled down four interceptions, repeatedly shutting down the Cougars’ passing game and providing a spark that fueled one of Springs Valley’s biggest wins of the season. His full stat line is still being confirmed, but the four-pick night alone makes his case for Player of the Week honors undeniable.
Few players in Southern Indiana have been as explosive as Zack Russell was in Southridge’s 49–13 win over Forest Park. The junior running back needed only seven carries to pile up 118 rushing yards and four touchdowns, averaging an incredible 16.9 yards per carry. Russell also contributed on defense with three tackles and two tackles for loss, proving once again that he’s one of the region’s top two-way threats.
In North Central’s 39–21 win over Eastern Greene, Greydyn Walters delivered one of the most complete performances of the season. The senior carried 20 times for 202 yards and five touchdowns, handled all the team’s kicking and punting duties, and even knocked through an extra point. Walters finished with 31 total points and was the driving force behind North Central’s high-powered victory.
Efficiency doesn’t get much better than what AJ Todd did in Charlestown’s 49–6 win over Eastern (Pekin). Todd touched the ball only three times—but he made every carry count, racking up 101 yards and three touchdowns, including a 59-yard burst that electrified the crowd. His quick-strike ability was the story of the night as the Pirates rolled to another dominant win.
John Bargen and the Bloomington North offense were unstoppable in their 57–0 rout of Southport. The senior quarterback completed 16 of 21 passes for 303 yards and five touchdowns, finding the end zone early and often as the Cougars built a commanding first-half lead. Bargen’s precision and poise under center helped Bloomington North post over 400 yards of total offense in the blowout win.
In Connersville’s 41–34 victory over Batesville, Parker Flanigan was the definition of a playmaker. The junior piled up 272 total yards, rushing 26 times for 189 yards while adding three receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns. He even completed a 33-yard pass to round out one of the most well-rounded performances in Southern Indiana this season.
Clark French torched the West Vigo defense in a 70–7 statement win for Sullivan. The junior running back exploded for 190 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries, averaging more than 21 yards per attempt. French’s relentless running helped the Golden Arrows close the regular season in dominating fashion and stamp their mark heading into the postseason.
Jeffersonville sophomore Nation Roe-McBroom showcased elite versatility in a 35–21 win over Jennings County. Roe-McBroom caught seven passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns, then added a 60-yard punt return score for good measure. His 229 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns made him one of the most dynamic players in the state last week.
Senior quarterback Wyatt Bowling put on a clinic in Franklin County’s 30–6 win over North Decatur. Bowling was nearly flawless, completing 14 of 18 passes for 271 yards while adding 25 carries for 155 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. His 426 total yards and three scores led the Wildcats to one of their most complete wins of the year.
In just his second season as Greensburg’s signal-caller, Levi Muckerheide turned in a breakout performance against Rushville. The sophomore completed 6 of 7 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown and rushed 14 times for 111 yards and three more scores, accounting for 263 total yards and four touchdowns. His balanced play helped the Pirates control the game from start to finish.
The regular season has come to an end, but before sectional play begins, one more athlete will claim the title of Southern Indiana Player of the Week.
