North Daviess Destroys North Central (Farmersburg) Behind Suffocating Defense and Big Arm Of Brock Knepp

My prediction from GOTW preview for Week 2

Welp, way to make me eat my own words Cougars. As a sports journalist we can’t get em right every time and I’ll be the first to admit when I am wrong. Well I was dead wrong about this one. North Daviess absolutely demolished the visiting North Central (Farmersburg) Thunderbirds last Friday night for their first win of the year by a score of 41-8. The Cougars finished the game with 350 total yards on offense while their stifling defense did not let the Thunderbirds get anything going on offense after the first possession. SISN talked with Cougars’ Head Coach Trent Fine after the game:

SISN: What a way to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss in week 1. Did you prepare your team any differently or was there a renewed sense of urgency in practice all week?

Coach Fine: This week we focused on getting the fundamentals corrected, we did not play good football against Tecumseh. The kids were focused and wanted to get better in practice.

SISN: What are your thoughts on each facet of the game? (Offense, defense, special teams)

Coach Fine: Offensively we got things going after a bad snap leading to NC’s only TD of the game and we started moving the ball. We ran the ball well and were able to get Brock Knepp some time in the pocket. This led to some consistency on offense and allowed our defense to be aggressive. Defense was great all night and limited NC to very few yards of total offense and also created turnovers. Special teams play was very sound and allowed us to get some field position throughout the second half of the game.

SISN: You have your first road test of the season next week at Eastern-Greene. Tell me a little bit about how you plan to prepare your team for next week’s contest.

Repeat the focus from this past week and correct the little things.

SISN Standout Performers:

Offense:

QB Brock Knepp (5’10 175 lb Junior)

Knepp finished the game nearly perfect throwing the ball. He finished with over 250 yards through the air with a 60% completion percentage and 3 touchdowns. Knepp needed to rebound from the Cougars week 1 loss and did so in great fashion. Knepp was money all night.

RB Austin Webster (5’9 170 lb Senior)

Webster and Knepp were locked in Week 2. Webster caught a team high 6 of Knepp’s passes for 88 yards and 2 TD. Webster looked very strong and was able to go up and grab the ball and wrestle it away from N.C. defenders all night.

Defense:

LB Corey Andrews (6’1 205 lb. Freshman)

Andrews finished with 3 total tackles with 1.5 of them being for a loss. He also added a sack and two fumble recoveries, one in which he returned for a TD. Oh, he also added a rushing TD. Pretty good game for the Freshman RB/LB.

LB Elliot Park (6’3 200lb Senior)

Park stuffed the stat sheet by tallying 3 total tackles, all for a loss, and added a forced fumble and blocked a punt on special teams. He also scored a TD on the receiving end.
