Vote Now for Southern Indiana Football Week 3 Player of the Week

Charlestown’s Junior QB Clay McClelland has won SISN Player of the Week the first two weeks in a row, but new players are on the list this time and a new Player is waiting to take the weekly throne. We had the most nominations we’ve ever had this week, and there were a lot of great ones. After going through the nominations and performing our own research, these 8 Indiana football players are out choice for Week 3 Player of the Week. Voting is below and limited to one person per vote. Voting ends Friday at Noon.

Ben Davies, SO QB, Evansville Reitz

Ben completed 16 of 20 passes for 237 yards and 3 passing touchdowns. He was instrumental in Evansville Reitz’s win over Jasper 41-14.

Brayden Shrake, JR RB, Martinsville

Brayden Shrake helped Martinsville to a win over Greenwood, 28 to 14. Shrake rushed the ball 30 times for 182 yards (6.1 avg) and 2 touchdowns.

Devon Tekulve, SR DB, Columbus East

A lot of our readers nominated Devon for Player of the Week after a stellar performance on defense against Seymour. East would win the game 34 to 12. It has sometimes hard to capture how well a player does just on stats alone, so we’ll share what one of readers said about Tekulve’s performance.

“This young man plays a role in all phases of the game! He is a Senior Captain for a reason! This week was revenge week against Seymore who as everyone knows ended “The Streak” last year. #8 had 1 reception for 33 yards (was a 3rd and long situation and made a diving catch to help keep the drive alive for a 1st down and goal at the 2. (Which ended with 7 points) on the next offensive possession he snapped the ball to the punter and made sure the ball was downed at Seymour’s own 2-yard line. After 2 short runs he then batted down a pass on 3rd and 5. The very next play Seymore punted out of their own end zone and this #8 kid took it to the house to completely deflate whatever air Seymore had left in the tank to put East up 21-12! All that and still had a half a dozen tackles.”

Jarrett Turner, SR RB, Edinburgh

Turner carried the ball 20 times for 183 yards (9.2 avg) and 1 touchdown. Jarret also had 2 receptions for 57 yards and another receiving TD. He finished the game with 240 total yards and 2 tds. Turner also tacked on 4 tackles on defense in a win over South Decatur 18 to 7.

Kaleb Tucker, SR QB, Salem

Kaleb Tucker was a fan nomination, as we could not find any official stats on Maxpreps or elsewhere, so thank you for the submission! Kaleb complete 9 out of 18 passes for 181 yards and 1 touchdown. Tucker also rushed 13 times for 102 yards and another touchdown. He finished the game with 283 total yards and 2 TDs in Salem’s first win of the season.

Owen Whitaker, JR RB, North Harrison

North Harrison football had two strong showings from their running backs. Sawyer Wetzel had another highlight day, but was injured, which allowed Owen Whitaker to come in and carry for 11 times for 148 yards (13.5 avg) for 3 touchdowns. I didn’t want to split the votes for North Harrison, so I gave the nod to Owen, stepping up and having a monster of a day. Owen also had 7 tackles in their win over Corydon Central, 49 to 26.

Tanner Boyd, JR QB, Gibson Southern

Tanner Boyd completed 10 of 11 passes for 232 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran the ball once for 15 yards in a big win over Washington 57 to 20.

Trey Rominger, JR RB, Paoli

Paoli’s Trey Rominger skipping over the tackle from Springs Valley defender.

Trey Rominger scored the game winning touchdown with 30 seconds left on the clock over a scrappy Springs Valley team, winning 29 to 22. Rominger rushed the ball 26 times for 199 yards (7.7 avg) and had 2 touchdowns. He also led his team in tackles with 7.5.
