Evansville Christian and Loogootee started off the action on the second day of the always entertaining Bobcat of Daviess County Classic. Loogootee started off strong in the first behind some hot 3-point shooting from Leighton Jeffers and Peyton Bledsoe. Loogootee would take a commanding lead going into the second quarter.
Then it was Evansville Christian and in particular, Josiah Dunham’s turn to make some noise. The Eagles came out absolutely on fire at the beginning of the second quarter. Dunham would cap off their run and give the Eagles the lead on a 4-point play about halfway through. Loogootee would change things up a bit and move to a 2-1-2 half court trap and begin to speed up the Eagles. Then it was Peyton Bledsoe’s time to shine as he hit back to back 3’s to give the Lions the lead back. Freshman guard AJ Foster would add some high quality minutes and a 3 of his own to give the Lions a 40-34 lead going into halftime.
Loogootee would continue to dominate early on in the second half behind some very tough defense and of course their sharpshooting senior combo guard Peyton Bledsoe. There was a scary moment about halfway through the quarter when Loogootee senior center Parker Arvin took a scary spill and had to be helped back to the locker room. We here at SISN wish him nothing but the best and hope for a speedy recovery.
Evansville Christian would not go away however as Josiah Dunham wouldn’t let them. The Eagles cut it down to just 1 point with 2:17 to go in the 3rd quarter. The Eagles would eventually take the lead in the 4th quarter behind 7 straight points from Jake Schnepper and Jackson Chesser. The Eagles pressure D late in the game visibly frustrated the Lions as they had to struggle to get anything going. Evansville Christian would go on to ice the game with free throws winning 68-63 over Loogootee.
We couldn’t have asked for a better start to day 2 of the Bobcat of North Daviees Classic. We’ve got 3 more games today so stay tuned!
