Washington Looks to Upset Defending State Champs North Daviess

Washington, IND – The Hatchet House is one of, if not the, finest high school basketball arenas in the world. It is also the hardest place to win for anyone that doesn’t have Washington embroidered on the front of their jerseys. The Hatchets will play host to the North Daviess Cougars with the Sectional 31 Championship on the line in front of one of the best crowds in Southern Indiana.

We all know the history of the Hatchets basketball program. The accolades are too many to even speak on in this story. I’m sure many of you know those boys that came through in the mid to late 2000’s who brought a couple state championships back home and then went on to very successful college and professional careers. Those boys being the Zeller’s.

For the purpose of this story however let’s leave the past in the past and focus on this year’s brand of Hatchet basketball. Washington has not had the best of season’s sitting at just over .500 at the time of this writing. Sagarin has them as the 40th best team in 3A and 150th overall. However as we all know rankings can get thrown right out the window come playoff time. There have been numerous “upsets” this sectional season, most notably Carmel being beat at home. South Spencer lost, Connersville lost, the list goes on and on. What I’m trying to get at here is any one team can beat any other on any given night.

Could this be the night for the Hatchets? I know at least 3/4 of The Hatchet House will be trying their best to make that happen. Washington, at home, is a team that I will never count out, even if it is playing one of the best teams in the state. Can’t wait to experience The Hatchet House in all its glory tonight, and maybe just maybe these Hatchets can pull off the miracle. Only time will tell.
