SISN Sports Recap: East Central Trojans vs. Batesville Bulldogs

BATESVILLE, IN – On a crisp Friday evening, two undefeated Southern Indiana teams met on the gridiron, with the SISN Top 25 #1 ranked East Central Trojans taking on the newly ranked #12 Batesville Bulldogs. Excitement rippled through the stadium, as fans anticipated a formidable match-up, hoping for Batesville to pose a challenge against the state’s reigning elite.

But as the final whistle blew, it was clear which team was dominant. The Trojans clinched victory with a commanding 42-0 shutout, extending their remarkable 58-game winning streak against current conference adversaries.

The evening’s standout was undoubtedly the Trojans’ quarterback Cole Burton. Burton, in sync with wide receiver Ryan Brotherton, treated fans to an offensive spectacle. He connected with Brotherton for three consecutive touchdowns, highlighting their coordination with a breathtaking 77-yard pass. Brotherton, with his agile maneuvers and unparalleled speed, proved to be a thorn in Batesville’s defense. His performance solidified his name as 2nd all-time in school touchdown receptions and marked his second consecutive game with 100+ yards.

Yet, the most electric player on the field was undoubtedly Josh Ringer. The senior tailback was everywhere. He not only lit up the scoreboards with his rushing TDs but made his mark felt every time he touched the pigskin. Ringer’s performance on Friday night was a microcosm of his season: consistent, dynamic, and dominant. With 140 or more yards in every game this season and an incredible tally of 870 yards with 18 touchdowns, his claim to being one of Indiana’s best backs isn’t mere hyperbole. Whispers around the state are now growing into a resounding chorus, placing Ringer at the forefront of the conversation for Indiana’s Mr. Football.

On the other side of the ball, East Central’s defense showcased why they are the gold standard in high school football. Linebacker Dylan Maxwell led the charge, recording eight tackles and demonstrating leadership on and off the field. With support from stalwarts like Chase Bellman, Connor Kuhn, and Nyden Euson, the Trojans swarmed the Bulldogs, stifling their every move. Cornerback Jace Dorsey was a no-fly zone in himself, grabbing one interception and ensuring that the Bulldogs’ passing game remained grounded.

The Trojans, with their mix of a potent offense and a stifling defense, look complete and ready for any challenge that comes their way. Their games are more than just football matches; they’re a statement of intent, a show of dominance, and a testament to years of hard work, dedication, and a winning culture.

For Batesville, the evening was an eye-opener. Encountering the best in Southern Indiana can only serve as motivation to return stronger. Their track record this season offers a glimmer of hope for a swift resurgence.

In essence, East Central’s game was a declaration of their prowess. The message is loud and clear to Indiana’s teams: The Trojans are in top form, and their #1 spot isn’t up for grabs. With Ringer steering the offensive onslaught and a defense as sturdy as they come, they’re well poised for postseason glories.
