Player of the Game: Landon Weeks, Springs Valley
Senior defensive back Landon Weeks was everywhere. He recorded four interceptions, including two in the red zone and one in the final minute to seal the win. His performance set the tone for a Blackhawk defense that refused to break, earning him a nomination for Southern Indiana Football Player of the Week.
Weeks’ night will go down as one of the most dominant defensive outings of the 2025 season.
Game Recap
After a scoreless first quarter, Springs Valley broke through in the second when quarterback Blake Buchanan connected with Pax Roach for a 19-yard touchdown. Anakin Keyamo’s extra point made it 7–0 at halftime.
In the fourth, Augie Purkhiser pushed in from a yard out to extend the lead to 13–0. North Daviess fought back behind senior quarterback Keaton Graber, who threw a late touchdown to Anderson Aiman and added a successful two-point run to make it 13–8. But another interception by Weeks ended the Cougars’ comeback hopes as time expired.
Both defenses delivered punishing hits and multiple sacks, with Roach anchoring Valley’s pass rush and Aiman and Jordan Knepp each recording a sack for the Cougars.

Sectional 48 Outlook
Both programs are part of one of the toughest 1A sectionals in Indiana: Sectional 48, which also includes perennial power Providence. With Springs Valley, North Daviess, and Providence all ranked among the state’s top small-school programs, it’s hard to imagine the eventual 1A state champion coming from anywhere else.
The Blackhawks (9-0) close the regular season against Forest Park (3-6), while the Cougars (8-1) look to regroup against Perry Central (0-9).
The next few weeks will reveal whether these two meet again, this time with everything on the line.
