Class 1A Sectional Pairings and Predictions

Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 28, and run through Saturday, March 4 with
Regionals on Saturday, March 11. The second team listed in each match is the designated home team. Host school in Italics.

Sectional 57 – White River Valley

1 Tue Shakamak [13-9] vs. Bloomington Lighthouse [15-7]
2 Wed White River Valley [5-17] vs. Dugger Union [8-12]
3 Wed Bloomfield [20-3] vs. Clay City [16-6]
4 Fri North Central (Farmersburg) [11-11] vs. Winner Game 1
5 Fri Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3
6 Sat Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5

This is #1 Bloomfield’s sectional to lose. The Cardinals come in at 19-3 so far and only lost to arguably the best team in Indiana that isn’t named Ben Davis, Linton-Stockton by 1 about a month ago. They matchup against Clay City in the first round who is no slouch however. The Eels come in at 16-6 but already lost to the Cardinals by 16 back in December. Lighthouse Christian is having a decent year and would be my dark horse, but there is no way that Bloomfield should not make it out of this sectional.

SISN Sectional 57 Predicted Champion: Bloomfield Cardinals

Sectional 58 – Indiana School for the Deaf

1 Tue Bethesda Christian [18-3] vs. Indiana Deaf [8-14]
2 Tue Indianapolis International [4-14] vs. Traders Point Christian [16-6]
3 Fri Indiana Math & Science [14-8] vs. Winner Game 1
4 Fri Indianapolis Metropolitan [9-13] vs. Winner Game 2
5 Sat Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

Both Traders Point Christian and Bethesda Christian have had great seasons. coming in ranked at #12 and #6 respectively. B.C. may have a tough game in the second round as Indiana Math & Science has had a decent year with 15 wins, but i don’t see anyone stopping the Patriots from taking the sectional 58 crown.

SISN Predicted Sectional 58 Champion: Bethesda Christian Patriots

Sectional 59 – Indianapolis Lutheran

1 Tue Eminence [2-18] vs. Providence Cristo Rey [5-15]
2 Tue Indianapolis Tindley [11-13] vs. Greenwood Christian [16-6]
3 Fri Indianapolis Lutheran [13-7] vs. Winner Game 1
4 Fri Victory College Prep [3-17] vs. Winner Game 2
5 Sat Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

Greenwood Christian Academy and Tindley is one of the best 1st round games you will likely see all tournament. G.C.A. is currently ranked #9 with 15 wins on the season and already have a win against sectional foe and #11 ranked Indy Lutheran. This could become a trap game for G.C.A. if they try to look ahead to the championship where they will likely see Indy Lutheran. Don’t let Lutheran’s record fool you, they have played an insane schedule and let’s not forget they only lost to defending 3A state champ Beech Grove by 6 back in late January. Plus they will look to have some revenge against G.C.A. for their loss earlier in the year. I’m predicting my first upset of the year by taking Lutheran over Greenwood Christian Academy.

SISN Sectional 59 Predicted Champion: Indy Lutheran Saints

Sectional 60 – Edinburgh

1 Tue South Decatur [11-11] vs. Edinburgh [12-9]
2 Wed Jac-Cen-Del [13-9] vs. Southwestern (Shelbyville) [3-18]
3 Wed Waldron [10-11] vs. Morristown [1-20]
4 Fri Oldenburg Academy [6-14] vs. Winner Game 1
5 Fri Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3
6 Sat Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5

This is a very top heavy sectional with 3 teams above .500 and 3 teams with a combined 9 wins on the year. It doesn’t appear that any one team has too much of an advantage over the other. Edinburgh is the only ranked team coming in at #16 with 12 wins on the season at the time of this writing. Edinburgh took defending state champs North Daviess all the way down to the wire last year in the regional only falling by 1. Jac-Cen-Del is also a team to watch as they already have 3 wins to zero losses against teams in this sectional this year. I Look for an exciting and very competitive championship game between Edinburgh and Jac-Cen-Del with Edinburgh coming out on top.

SISN Sectional 60 Predicted Champion: Edinburgh Lancers

Sectional 61 – West Washington

1 Tue West Washington [11-10] vs. Borden [15-7]
2 Tue Rock Creek Academy [6-14] vs. Christian Academy [16-6]
3 Fri South Central (Elizabeth) [14-8] vs. Winner Game 1
4 Fri Lanesville [1-20] vs. Winner Game 2
5 Sat Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

#18 Borden is the perennial favorite to come out of this sectional every year but they have some stiff competition in #13 Christian Academy and South Central. Borden does already Christian Academy definitely had the luck of the draw and have the best path to the championship. Should Borden get past host West Washington in the first round they will have a very tough match-up in South Central. These two played a thriller in early December with Borden escaping with a 2 point win. I believe Borden gets past them, but it should be another hard fought game. It is always tough to pick against Borden, but I’m going with Christian Academy in this one.

SISN Sectional 61 Predicted Champion: Christian Academy of Indiana Warriors

Sectional 62 – New Washington

1 Tue Shawe Memorial [9-14] vs. New Washington [10-13]
2 Tue Rising Sun [9-13] vs. Medora [9-11]
3 Fri Trinity Lutheran [6-16] vs. Winner Game 1
4 Fri Crothersville [8-13] vs. Winner Game 2
5 Sat Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

This is a tough one to predict. None of these teams have been able to break away from the pack as they all sit with between 6 and 10 wins on the year. Could the smallest school in Indiana, Medora, pull of a “Milan Miracle” and come out of this sectional. While it would definitely make for a good story, I don’t think it will happen. I’m going with host school New Washington over Crothersville for the sectional 62 crown.

SISN Sectional 62 Predicted Champion: New Washington Mustangs

Sectional 63 – Loogootee

1 Tue Vincennes Rivet [4-16] vs. Loogootee [15-7]
2 Wed Springs Valley [7-14] vs. Washington Catholic [3-18]
3 Wed Shoals [10-11] vs. Orleans [20-2]
4 Fri Barr-Reeve [12-10] vs. Winner Game 1
5 Fri Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3
6 Sat Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5

Anyone who has followed Indiana high school basketball knows what a tremendous group of teams make up “63.” This sectional has always been a personal favorite of mine and it seems like the eventual 1A state champion comes from this group more often than not. Orleans has proven time and time again this year why they are at the top of the polls. They just simply win. Ian Hall and Xavier Alston among others are at the top of their games. They will run into some very stiff competition however. Barr-Reeve and Springs Valley have had what some could call off years this season. S.V. should get past Washington Catholic fairly easily but will likely run into the buzz-saw that is the Orleans Bulldogs. Barr-Reeve got the bye but will likely pair up with Loogootee and all time scoring leader for the Lions, Peyton Bledsoe. Loogootee is one heck of a team and if you’ve ever seen a game at Jack Butcher Arena you know what kind of a home-court advantage they have. Having said that I think Orleans comes out on top in a very, very exciting championship game over Loogootee.

SISN Sectional 63 Predicted Champion: Orleans Bulldogs

Sectional 64 – Wood Memorial

1 Tue Evansville Christian [14-9] vs. Wood Memorial [8-13]
2 Tue Cannelton [1-20] vs. Evansville Day [9-15]
3 Fri Tecumseh [8-13] vs. Winner Game 1
4 Fri Northeast Dubois [12-9] vs. Winner Game 2
5 Sat Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

Only two teams in this sectional will come into it with a winning record, #9 Evansville Christian and Northeast Dubois. Unless a miracle happens we should see these two teams in the championship. Northeast Dubois got the better draw and will only need to win twice to take the crown, while Christian will need 3 W’s. Evansville Christian has the x-factor though between the two. That being Josiah Dunham. Dunham currently sits at 4th in the state in scoring at 24.5 points/game. We had the pleasure of watching him play at the Bobcat Classic at North Daviess this year and he is the real deal folks. Evansville Christian takes this one.

SISN Sectional 64 predicted Champion: Evansville Christian Eagles
