Friday, August 26, 2022. 7:00 p.m., be sure to come out to Cook Field. The Paoli Rams hosts the Corydon Central Panthers, as week 2 gets under way for Southern Indiana Football. Both teams are looking to rebound after losses week 1. The Rams lost their home opener to Boonville Pioneers 36-8, while the Panthers lost at home to Brownstown 53-28.

“We ran into a very solid Boonville team, we knew it would be a challenge coming in and we played well for large parts of the game. We have to clean up the mistakes, our turnovers and not converting in the redzone were major momentum killers.” Paoli Coach Neil Dittmer said of the loss.

“We were able to move the ball, just weren’t consistent all night long. We made several defensive stops and made some really good plays.”

The Rams gameplan will focus on the run game against Corydon, a tactic that worked well for Brownstown. The Braves ran for 389 yards in week one. Big run opportunities will be plenty for Trey Rominger, Fletcher Cole, and Braxton Elliot.

“The focus this week is on ourselves, to approach practice with a sense of urgency to clean up our mistakes. We are going to have to stay on schedule on offense, and limit the big play defensively.” Coach Dittmer comments on the importance of stopping the big play, which might come often with Corydon Central’s strong passing game.

Corydon Central did not win a game last season, and they’re hungry for that first one. This will be a tough contest, and could go to either team.

Corydon Central’s Keys to Success

The Panthers will bring a pass heavy offense, something that Paoli has struggled with in the past. The Rams have the potential to put up a lot of points, so being able to keep up with them with the passing game will be crucial. Corydon’s defense will need to watch the exterior and keep on their keys.

Paoli’s Keys to Success

Run, run, and run some more. Paoli will need to employ that run game that they’re known so well for. The Rams will need to control the clock and keep the pass heavy Panthers on the sideline. Employing some short yardage cross plays will catch the defense off guard and relieve some pressure on the run. The defense backs are going to be key in this game and need to ensure they do not all any receivers behind them.
