SISN week 4 Player of the Week nominee, Seth Brewster and the Owen Valley Patriots welcome the Northview Knights in the battle of the undefeateds. Both teams will look to stay perfect Friday Night in what should be a raucous atmosphere in Spencer as these two look to stay atop the Western Indiana Conference. Time to take a deeper look into both squads.

The Knights and Head Coach Mark Raetz employ a very powerful running attack. Coming into Friday night’s game the Knights have rushed for an unbelievable 1330 yards through 4 games. Mobile Junior QB threat Kyle Cottee and Junior RB Imer Holman pace the Knights with 581 and 478 yards, respectively. This tandem of athletic rushers is a force to be reckoned with as both also have 8 touchdowns on the year. Northview can definitely put some points on the board.

On the defensive side of the ball, Northview doesn’t cause many turnovers but does play solid fundamental ball. Paced by Junior LB Thomas Gilliam with a total of 28 tackles through the first 4 games, good for 7 a game, the Knights have held opponents to 41 points on the year, with 21 of them coming from their first game against Terre Haute North Vigo. The last 3 games the Knights have only allowed 1 touchdown a game.

Owen Valley uses a very balanced and effective attack on offense. The Patriots Senior QB Brody Lester has been impressive so far though 4 games. Lester has thrown for 751 yards while also adding 120 on the ground. What’s even more impressing is his 12 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions. Good for a 6:1 td/int ratio. To put it blunty this kid knows how to execute and take care of the ball.

The Patriots defense hasn’t been as stout as they’d like to be. They have been great against lesser competition but when the lights shine bright they seem to be vulnerable. Their pass rush has been stellar although as they have amassed 11 sacks through the first four weeks. The Patriots also have a knack for knocking the ball loose as they have 5 recovered fumbles and are also stout against the pass with 11 passes defensed.

Players To Watch

Northview

Junior QB Kyle Cottee

Junior QB Kyle Cottee is a major threat. Although he does not throw the ball he is amazingly athletic in the run game. Posting a team high 145.3 yards a game Cottee will definitely be a major factor.

Junior RB Imer Holman

Holman is another huge piece of the Knights rushing attack averaging 199.5 yards a game and tying Cottee with 8 rushing TD’s. Holman can break the long run or punish opposing defenses up the middle. Look for him to have a big game.

Brody Lester has made the most of his senior season leading the Patriots to a 4-0 start. His ability to read defenses and take care of the ball are most impressive, as are his 12 Tds. Lester will look to continue on this success and show up big Friday.

Seth absolutely went off last week and earned himself a spot as a SISN Player of the Week nominee. Brewster had 2 fumble recoveries & 3 Interceptions, 2 of which were a pick-6 in a 57-7 win over the rival Edgewood Mustangs. Now that’s a stat line. Look for him to use that momentum to come up huge again.

Spencer, we’re headed your way for our SISN Game of the Week. Let’s make it a memorable one and pack those stands for what should be an incredible Western Indiana Conference football game.
