The Orleans Bulldogs boys’ basketball team had a good weekend. On Friday, they took down county rival Springs Valley Blackhawks 61-48. The next day it was Barr Reeve at home. Orleans won that one as well 56-49. We were attendance for the Springs Valley game, and the Dawgs look good.

Orleans is a very aggressive defensive and offensive team. During the Springs Valley game, they were in the Blackhawk’s faces all night, forcing Springs Valley to force up shots and disrupting their offense. And though SV tried to get it close, Orleans held the momentum the entire game, out-hustling the Blackhawks to get the win.

The Bulldogs are just as aggressive and quick on offense, and they have a lot of options, I’m sure Coach Bradley can depend on several to hit the shot when needed. If they continue playing like the team we’re seeing, they’re going to go far.

Ian Hall was the points leader on Friday, he scored 23 points on 64% shooting, and 8 rebounds. Nate Graves played a huge role off the bench, scoring 10 points, and brought a lot of energy. I love Graves’ toughness when he comes off the bench, he’s definetly the Bulldogs’ enforcer.

From the Springs Valley side, I was hoping to see a little more from their team. They struggled most of the night to find good shots. Everything was forced, not enough passing, and not a lot of options.

Deion Edwards was athletic and has a lot of potential, but it was hard for him to get started, not hitting a field goal until the second half, and would finish the night with 12 points. Konner Chase finished with 10.

The Valley team will get it together and find their rythym as the season progresses, but Orleans just had more will to win on Friday.

With the wins this weekend, Orleans has already beat two foes in Sectional 63, which is the Sectional that has won 1A State Championship the last few years. Orleans is the team to beat in 63, and they may be the front-runner to represent Southern Indiana in the 1A State Championship this season. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do.
