It was homecoming weekend at Patriot Field as Owen Valley High School hosted SISN’s Game of the Week for week 5. I gotta tell ya folks, Owen Valley really knows how to put on a show. We couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere for our game of the week. The Owen Valley Patriots (5-0, 3-0) stayed undefeated beating the Northview Knights (4-1, 1-1) in convincing fashion 28-7.

Game Recap

Both teams came into Friday night’s contest undefeated and looking to take the lead in the Western Indiana Conference Gold Division. The Knights had the early momentum as they came out hot and efficient led by their two headed rushing attack of Kyle Cottee and Imer Holman. On their first drive they methodically drove down the field and ended it with a punishing 3 yard TD run by Holman.

Owen Valley would respond with an impressive drive of their own culminating in a 1 yard TD rush by stud TE Eli Hinshaw. In our pregame talk with Owen Valley AD Brad Greene, he told us that Hinshaw would be the player to watch. He was not wrong. Hinshaw was a man among boys out there.

Owen Valley would miss the extra point attempt and Northview would still hold the lead going into the second quarter. Northview would drive down the field but then the wheels fell off as Junior QB Kyle Cottee was picked off by SISN player of the week nominee for week 4, Seth Brewster at the Patriots 6. Brewster would run it back 94 yards for the score and completely swing the momentum firmly in Owen Valley’s way.

“That was a blown coverage by us. We were fortunate enough that the ball was thrown short and it landed in Seth’s hands. They had a guy open in the end zone. If that ball was thrown harder? It’s a 12-point swing,”

OWEN VALLEY HEAD COACH Rob gibson TOLD THE TRIBUNE-STAR

From that moment out it would be all Patriots as they completely dominated the Knights the rest of the way. Owen Valley would add scores in the 3rd and 4th quarter with runs by Senior QB Brody Lester and Senior RB Christian McDonald. Northview would simply have no answer. The Patriots are the real deal folks. Owen Valley would rush for 210 yards for the game, and would dominate time of possession in the second half. They were also 10-14 on 3rd and 4th down conversions.

“Frustrating is a good word for that. We knew we’d have to play well tonight. They had everyone back. We had to play well and not make a lot of mistakes, but we made a lot of mistakes. We have to play better against good teams,”

Players of the Game

Offense – Senior QB Brody Lester (Owen Valley)

Owen Valley SR QB Brody Lester Chris Marshall/SISN

Lester would end the game with 137 total yards on offense (85 rushing, 52 passing), and would add 1 TD on the ground. It was his ability to manage the game and make the right decisions that most stood out to me. He didn’t throw the ball much, but he didn’t need to as his team’s rushing attack sliced and diced through the Knights defense all night long.

Defense – Senior LB Seth Brewster (Owen Valley)

Brewster would build off last week’s outstanding performance, and keep up his stellar play. Seth was easily one of, if not the, best football player on the field. He has a knack for just being in the right place at the right time and the athletic ability to make offenses pay for their mistakes. This was on full display as he had arguably the most important play of the game with his INT returned for a TD in the second quarter.
