Indianapolis, IND – The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the 2022 IHSAA Football Sectional Pairings Sunday October 9th. This is the best time of the year for a high school football fan. There will be upsets and drama galore. We have all the brackets along with our analysis and predictions for all Southern Indiana Sectionals. Let’s dig deeper into the…
2022 Southern Indiana Sectional Draws
Class A
Sectional 46
Cambridge City Lincoln, Edinburgh, Knightstown, Milan, North Decatur, South Decatur, Tri
North Decatur And Tri are both the odds on favorites to win this sectional. They will play each other in the first round in what might be the game of the tournament. Don’t count out Edinburgh or Milan as they have a favorable pairing in the first round, although Milan will have to play the best teams in this sectional in the 2nd round. Edinburgh seems to have the best route to the championship as they start out with 1-6 Knightstown and if they get past them they will face 0-7 Cambridge City Lincoln.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Edinburgh vs. North Decatur
Sectional 48
Eastern Greene, North Daviess, Providence, Rock Creek Academy, South Spencer, Springs Valley, Tecumseh, West Washington
This is one we’ve been watching all year very closely. Both Providence and Tecumseh are very good football teams. Luckily this year we may have a chance to see them in the Championship Game. North Daviess is not to be counted out. They drew the bye, but will likely have to face off against Tecumseh in the 2nd round. This is Tecumseh’s and Providence’s Sectional to lose.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Tecumseh vs. Providence
Class 2A
Sectional 37
Cascade, Greencastle, Linton-Stockton, North Knox, North Putnam, South Vermillion, Southmont, Sullivan
Perennially this is Linton’s Sectional to lose. Linton is undefeated on the year as of Week 8 but has played the 208th best (out of 316 teams) strength of schedule according to Sagarin. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to dominate when the pressure is on against some better competition. This is a very stacked sectional towards the middle of the pack. It’s going to be an interesting sectional for teams not named Linton, South Vermillion, or Southmont. I look for a couple upsets this year in that grouping.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Linton-Stockton vs. Sullivan
Sectional 39
Brown County, Brownstown Central, Christel House Manual, Clarksville, Eastern (Pekin), Switzerland County, Triton Central
We’ve gotten some criticism for including this in our Weekly recaps and the SISN Top 25. While all the teams might not be considered “Southern” this is no doubt a Southern Sectional. We don’t want to argue geography with you. Having said that, this is Scecina’s tournament to lose, but you cant count out Triton Central or to a lesser degree, Brownstown Central. I would have Brownstown as the dark horse to make it to the championship, but they might have to play Triton Central in the 2nd round who has shown all year they are a solid football team. Scecina definitely has the best path to the Championship.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Triton Central vs. Indianapolis Scecina
Sectional 40
Crawford County, Evansville Mater Dei, Forest Park, Mitchell, North Posey, Paoli, Perry Central, Tell City
This is a hard one to predict. 4 teams in this sectional sit at 6-2 or better with Perry Central leading this grouping at 7-1. Paoli perhaps has the best path to the Championship Game. The Rams should handle Mitchell fairly easy, but will have a tougher test in the second round as they will likely play North Posey. Perry Central has a tough game at Mater Dei in the first round. I’m gonna go out on a limb for this prediction…
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Paoli vs. Evansville Mater Dei
Class 3A
Sectional 30
Gibson Southern, Mt. Vernon, Pike Central, Princeton, Owen Valley, Vincennes Lincoln, West Vigo
I was really hoping for a different draw this year. How could one not want to see Owen Valley and Gibson Southern in the championship game? Well it looks as if they will meet in the 2nd round this year, should both teams get past their opponents in the 1st. Gibson Southern should get past Vincennes Lincoln although that could turn into a trap game for the Titans. Remember Lincoln only lost to Evansville Reitz by 3 earlier in the year.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Gibson Southern vs. West Vigo
Sectional 31
Batesville, Centerville, Franklin County, Greensburg, Indian Creek, Lawrenceburg, Rushville, South Dearborn
Another unfortunate draw for this Sectional as arguably the two best teams play in the first round in South Dearborn and Lawrenceburg. Indian Creek and Centerville should make for an interesting game in the second round should they both make it. This is another hard one to predict.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Lawrenceburg vs. Indian Creek
Sectional 32
Charlestown, Corydon Central, Heritage Hills, Madison, North Harrison, Salem, Scottsburg, Southridge
Charlestown got a really good draw and if they continue to play well should make it to the Championship Game, and have a good chance at winning it. The game of the 1st round to keep an eye on will be North Harrison at Southridge. Both teams have shown major promise this year. Whichever team wins that one will most likely have to take on Corydon Central in the 2nd round. Corydon has been up and down this year but have shown the ability to play 4 great quarters and come out with a win, though i don’t believe they can get past Southridge or North Harrison.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Southridge vs. Charlestown
Class 4A
Sectional 23
Bedford North Lawrence, East Central, Edgewood, Greenwood, Jennings County, Martinsville, Shelbyville, Silver Creek
The stars have aligned. I have long hoped that there would be a chance for Martinsville and East Central to meet up in the Championship Game. Now this assumes they both get there. Other than those two the rest of this sectional hasn’t shown the consistent ability to win games, with no other teams sitting above .500 on the season as of this writing. This is one Sectional that this writer hopes for no dramatic upsets.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Martinsville vs. East Central
Sectional 24
Boonville, Evansville Bosse, Evansville Central, Evansville Harrison, Evansville Memorial, Evasnville Reitz, Jasper
We’ve had Reitz as our number one team in our SISN Top 25 almost all year and for good reason. They are a damn good football team. This will definitely be their Sectional to lose. Having said that there are some teams that could surprise. Boonville will be a tough out as they have played well all season. If both teams make it to the second round, which they more than likely will, that will be a game to watch. Jasper got the bye and perhaps the best draw. We will likely see a rematch of the first game of the year in the second round which happened to be our first “Game of the Week” which Jasper beat Memorial handily. Jasper also pulled off a huge upset as they beat Castle by 1 in week 7, showing that they can win the big game.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Jasper vs. Evansville Reitz
Class 5A
Sectional 15
Columbus East, Bloomington South, Bloomington North, Seymour
Bloomington South finished their Conference Indiana schedule undefeated with their smallest margin of victory at 2 touchdowns. They were absolutely dominant in conference play. Seymour came on late winning 5 straight and have great momentum going into the postseason. Bloomington North and Columbus East have had up and down seasons, but are not out of the question to make the Championship Game, although I believe Seymour has the edge to meet the Panthers in the final game.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Seymour vs. Bloomington South
Sectional 16
Castle, Evansville North, Floyd Central, New Albany
This Sectional is up for the grabs. No team has really shown the ability to win with any kind of regularity. Castle has shown flashes but were upset by Jasper in Week 7. Evansville North just beat a decent Vincennes Lincoln team, but have also shown weaknesses. Floyd Central and New Albany are not likely to make it past either North or Castle.
SISN Championship Game Prediction
Evansville North vs. Castle
