Our player power rankings have been around for little over a month now, but it has gained a lot of popularity. Over 20,000 of you have visited our rankings, tons have shared, and a lot have voice their appreciation. We appreciate the love! Several coaches have also reached out, asking how they can get their players on the list.
Being transparent as possible of how we get our numbers. We have developed an semi-automatic approach that reviews the stats provided on Maxpreps. Maxpreps is the official stat reporting source, according to the IHSAA, but not all schools choose to use the site. I would say nearly 40% of all high schools in Indiana do not report publicly to Maxpreps. We weigh PPG, APG, SPG, RPG, & BPG together to get our rankings in each class.
We have converted a few schools to publicly report, Shoals and 21st Century a couple of them. Others want their players on our list, but with our current scripting of data, I had to do some thinking to come up with a solution.
I’ve made a Google sheet where coaches/staff will be able to manually update their players stats. I’ll import this sheet into my database and adjust my script to combine the Maxpreps data with these manual entries.
This solution will serve until the end of the season, and then I’ll try to work on some other ideas during the offseason. I will only be sending links out to Coaches or staff of the schools.
